Historical Novels transport you to another time and place, making reading a more interactive pastime.
When you can’t get out and go somewhere new, a good book can transport you to places you never thought you would go. That is the beauty of a good book and a great story!
Historical World War II novels!
Kate Quinn is a masterful writer that makes you feel you are in the middle of what is happening around you. She happens to write Historical Novels with a great flair. You are transported into the time and place and become part of the story. I never thought too much about war and its effects on people. I guess I was blessed to be born in an age that didn’t have too much of that going on. Oh I did think about the men and women that were on the front lines and the sacrifices they made. We are reminded of that every November! But I did not think about the other parts of war.
The Rose Code makes you think about Spies, Double Agents, Coded Messages and many other parts of the war efforts that are not front and center. During the war, everyone was worried about those men on those lines. That was the news that everyone heard about. But, did you ever think about all the other things that were still happening on the home grounds?
Enigma and Code Breaking
While the men were all in the thick of the battles, there were women (and some men) that did a lot of work behind the scenes. These jobs were just as important and dangerous as being on the front lines. Can you imagine being a code breaker?
I just finished listening to an Audiobook that will be released in March 2021 by Kate Quinn. Being a member of Netgalley, I was allowed access to this book pre-publication! Kate Quinn has written a few books about this time in history. Each one is a page turner! The Rose Code, like Kate Quinn’s other books, does not disappoint! If you want to be transported into the Back Rooms of the War Efforts. then this book is your ticket.
Language and Translations
Many Young women were left behind while their boyfriends went off to war. Instead of feeling abandoned and useless, they found ways to help the war effort. If you spoke German, French or Italian your language skills were considered valuable. Everyone wanted to do whatever they could to help their country during this time of upheaval.
So much happens during wartime. Not least of these is the communications that go between the warring factions. Codes and code breaking played an important part on both sides of the War. There were ways to intercept these messages and use the knowledge to advance the different sides. Information and misinformation were important to both sides. Codes and decryption of these codes is a whole world all unto itself.
Spies and counterspies are everywhere trying their best to infiltrate the enemy side. You don’t know who to trust. The women in the back rooms who were getting messages in code, were busy decrypting them. Sworn to secrecy, many of these women were not able to speak about what they were doing for the war effort. Friendships were forged due to the close relationships these women had doing their duties and keeping their secrets. Families were left out of what they were actually doing (code breaking) and thought they had office type jobs. That was just the beginning of what they actually were doing.
I don’t want to give away too much of “The Rose Code” because truly I believe it is a book that you would enjoy on your own. It is a page turner that you won’t regret getting into. Kate Quinn is a master story teller. The Rose Code available here! Will be delivered to a device March 9, 2021. Available in book format March 4, 2021!
