Reading books to children should be one of the first “duties” as a parent. Well, just after changing nappies and feeding them! Even when the little ones are too young to see, they can hear! They will love the sound of your voice as it dances over the words in most children’s books.
In order to make reading fun, parents should learn to use their voices in different ways. This could help animate the story and keep their attention focused. You can even turn the book into a real live action story unfolding right before their eyes.
Some of the best books are by an author I particularly like! Mercer Mayer writes stories that little ones can relate to! Whether it is going to the park, or on the school bus, to the dentist or any of the other places you go, Mr. Mayer brings that experience to life!
Children are sponges for new experiences (and let’s face it, most everyday there is a new experience)! For kids, those experiences could be as simple as going to the store, or as complicated as going to the hospital. Mr. Mayer covers all these new life skills with humor and truth. His books are bright, colorful and chock full of images. You can tell your own stories for hours.
I’ve chosen a few of my favorites for you, but please feel free to check out all of his collection at my special place for you!
