Ground Hog Day is just around the corner, February 2nd to be exact! Will you be watching what’s going on in Panxsutawny, Pennsylvania? Will Phil (the groundhog) see his shadow and bring us 6 more weeks of winter? Or maybe we will get lucky and he won’t see his shadow, making it an early spring, just weeks away!
I know some of you are thinking it’s really cruel to wake this little guy up from his slumbers, just to act as our weather barometer. Truth be known, he probably doesn’t mind too much, so long as he gets to go back into his den in short order. The whole process of waking him up only takes about 10 minutes . The build up takes much longer, but, everyone waits with baited breathe for the Ground Hog Guru’s forecast, and then He goes back to sleeping and everyone else parties for the day. The Question of the day has to be: ” Did you see Phil? or Did he see his shadow?”
Ground Hog Day is a day of fun and merriment and it happens to be a great time to enjoy the winter months, dress warmly and revel in the sights and sounds of people having fun, making merry and enjoying a tradition that has everyone’s spirits lifted and lightened at least until the spring months are truly here.
Ground Hog Day has become such a popular time that there are books about Phil, people get dressed up in “Phil Gear”, there are toys, stuffed animals, collectibles and movies about Ground Hog Day. People just love to have a reason to celebrate something fun, in the dead of winter. Street parties can make the winter months much more bearable.
Happy Ground Hog Day to you, I hope you don’t see your shadow!

We don’t make a big deal of Groundhog Day here, since winter isn’t a very big deal here, either.
You are missing out on some fun…..oh well. Can’t party all the time.
Ground Hog Day is always a fun time. Hope the snow from the Blizzard of 2016 won’t inhibit the celebrations!
I’m pretty sure that it just might enhance the celebrations. Just think of all the kids big and small playing in the snow….
