Cribbage is a game that has been played for centuries. Even though it has lasted that long, it’s still a game that gets everyone involved, sitting up a little straighter and just waiting for that hand that is going to get those points to put you over the SKUNK line before anyone else….
For years we played Cribbage with a group of friends, rotating where the host house was going to be and having a wonderful time with a great bunch of people. Then there were nights when the kids would grab the cribbage board and the cards and within a few minutes everyone was having a great time.
I like the game, because it’s easy to play, it’s never the same game twice and sharing it with friends makes for a really good time.
The kids learnt how to count and count quickly in order to move their pegs further and further down the tracks. There always seemed to be a healthy rivalry between them as they inched their way past their siblings.
Cribbage hasn’t lost any of it’s fun factors over the years either. It is a classic board game that should be part of every family’s game room/game night arsenal.
I love some of the newer sets that are “specialized” for those who really have a passion for something a little bit different!
Purchasing a good set for the home is paramount, you will use it many, many times and there is something wonderful about a game board that looks good and will last for years and years to come. I dare say, if you have a wonderful set, the kids will be fighting over who gets to keep it once mom and dad are too old…..
And the best part is that they will continue to play with their children just the same way that you played with them. A new generation will learn to count quickly in order to beat everyone else over that Skunk line! While they are at it, I’m sure they will be telling stories about how they played as kids, so that family history and family time is being shared.
A wonderful way to be low tech, but high energy and lots of fun, all at once.
You don’t have to worry about loosing pieces either, new pegs and new cards are easy enough to come by, so if one is lost or broken, they can be replaced. What can’t be replaced is the fun that your family had when they were all together playing.
